Lowcountry Black Cultural Network

We come together in partnership and collaboration to learn, educate and preserve Black and African-American culture in the Lowcountry.

We are…

A collective of individuals representing historically Black communities; community-based and faith-based organizations; educational, public and private institutions.

Educators, advocates, leaders, listeners, truth seekers, scholars, preservationists, community service workers, dissidents, activists and storytellers.

We come together to…

Listen and learn.

Educate ourselves and others.

Elevate, preserve and protect Black history and culture.

Invite more voices and stories.

Connect, communicate and collaborate.

Change how we define and practice preservation – that is expansive and does not exploit Black people, communities or organizations.

Our Core Initiatives

  1. Facilitate partnerships.

  2. Support networking spaces, information exchange and opportunities for relationship-building.

  3. Create resources and tools for community-led preservation.

  4. Compile and maintain a shared database of Black and African-American historical and cultural resources.

  5. Cultivate opportunities for education and intergenerational engagement with Black history and culture.
